No Quarantine required*

I do highly recommend quarantining any new fish you do purchase from anywhere if possible, especially imported fish ie: Pet store purchases.

Luke’s Tropical Fish Regulations:
NEW & IMPORTED FISH:
No imported fish or fish from outside will ever be mixed with my grow out fish or stock for sale to help ensure the best possible health for my fish.

I only purchase new imported fish a few times a year.

QUARANTINE PROCEDURE:
I have aquariums I use especially for quarantining EVERY new fish for at least a month. The fish are fully wormed and given extra care and close observation in case of any illness or ailment were to show up, I can contain and treat it quickly.

ON-GOING HEALTH CARE & DISEASE PREVENTION:
I keep a small, very closed set-up running around 10-15 independently filtered aquariums, ranging from 10L-140L aquariums, perfect for small species like Dwarf Cichlids, Tetras, Endlers etc.
This closed setup allows me to avoid any outside contamination 99% of the time.

** I can never trade or swap fish **
(sorry) I don’t have the space and it would increase the risk of contamination.

All the fish I breed have their own breeding tanks, they usually share a Nursery Tank with a few other species of compatible fry and afterwards they move to a larger grow out tank where I house 2-6 different compatible species of fish I have bred, never mixing with any other fish from the world outside my house.

I sterilize my nets and equipment all the time by either putting them out in the sun for a day or so, and/or using Hydrogen Peroxide/bleach. As a precaution I also wash my hands and nets clean before and after entering any tank, a habit drilled into me working on fish farms to avoid spreading contaminants of any kind.

WORMING FISH:
I use rainwater collected from my roof so as a rule I always fully worm any new fish during quarantine and all my tanks get the same treatment using both Levamisole & Praziquantel roughly every 6 months to ensure all my fish stay worm free and I can continue to breed and sell quality fish.

The majority of worms in fish are usually spread via bird droppings so any wild caught fish, fish farmed outdoors or any fish kept in rainwater are especially susceptible to worms and need to be carefully monitored.

  1. Luke’s tropical fish are bred in naturally scaped and planted aquariums, they will integrate well into any moderately planted tanks. For a small scale business Luke produces a few beginner/intermediate species and is fully licensed to breed and sell fish in Tasmania, providing the local community with home grown, quality and affordable fishes.
